The Bahamas has some of the clearest water and most beautiful islands in the world.
WHERE TO VISIT IN THE BAHAMAS:
When many people think of the Bahamas, they think of a cruise that goes to a big island like Nassau for example. They don’t think of tiny islands with no cars or hotels. However, this is the part of the Bahamas that I have been traveling to my whole life.
THE ABACO’S
The Abaco’s are a chain of islands in the northern part of the Bahamas with some of the most stunning beaches, the clearest water you have ever seen, and the nicest locals. There isn’t much to these islands, especially after Hurricane Dorian, however, if you are looking for a relaxing escape and don’t care about luxurious resorts and fancy restaurants, then this is your place.
how to get to the abaco’s:
It can be a little difficult to get to the Abaco’s, however, that shouldn’t stop you from going to one of the most beautiful spots in the world.
Here is a step by step guide of how to get to the Abaco’s:
1) The first thing you must do is get to South Florida somehow via plane or car. All of the flights going to the Abaco’s go out of South Florida airports only like PBI and FLL for example.
2) Fly from PBI or FLL airport to Marsh Harbour Airport. Marsh Harbour is one of the islands part of the Abaco’s, however, it is not most people’s final destination.
3) Then, you must take a ferry from the island of Marsh Harbour to Hope Town, which is a town on the island of Elbow Cay. Yay! You have arrived.
THINGS TO DO IN THE ABACO’S:
1) Visit Great Guana Cay + the famous restaurant called Nippers
2) Rent a boat (this is a must as this is the only way to get between all of the islands)
3) Visit Pete’s Pub restaurant and Little Harbour
4) Spend a day at Tahiti Beach
5) Climb the Hope Town Lighthouse
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT:
June is the best month out of the year to visit The Bahamas. I have visited in June the most and the weather has always been the best. There may be some afternoon thunderstorms, but that won’t stop you from having a great time!
Another great option is March for lower prices on rentals and boats, although the wind and weather can be unpredictable.
TIPS + TRICKS:
1) Pack a rain jacket in case you get some afternoon showers
2) Book your villa and boat far in advance- since there is not as much inventory, you must book many months before your trip
3) Pack lots of bathing suits as this will be your main way to dress on the island
4) Pack snacks as there is only one grocery store on the island
5) Rent a bike to explore the island of Elbow Cay
